Mary Simpson holds a BA in journalism and an MA in English from the University of North Texas. After living in all of the major cities of Texas, she has made her way back to the town where she attended college.

Her job history includes journalistic positions on several small newspapers. She was Assistant Editor on Dallas-based Petroleum Engineer magazine and worked on assignment for Denton Today magazine. For 18 years she was an employee of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in various capacities. The last three years of her FEMA stint, she put out a monthly newsletter, The Clarion, for the facility.

Cooking, books and movies, gardening, dogs and traveling in Mexico are among her passions. She has written on these and other subjects for Suite 101 since 2010.
